5 Feng Shui Habits My Mom Taught Me That Still Bring Balance to My Home

Whenever I was refreshing my room, whether it be trying a different layout or bringing a color palette in, I would always get a second opinion from my mom just to make sure the flow made sense. She’s always been into feng shui principles, so growing up, she would maneuver the furniture around to better harmonize it with the rest of our surroundings.

Below, I highlight five of the best feng shui tips I always use from my mom.

Never Place a Mirror in Front of Your Bed

The mirror is often a tricky item when it comes to the bedroom because there are a couple of areas you should never hang or place it. One of the biggest ones is in front of your bed because it’s known to cause restlessness, bad dreams, and poor sleep.

This is due to the reason that mirrors carry tons of energy since they bounce light all over the room, which can be directed to you if it’s right across from you.

Keep Windows Clean

When it comes to windows, my mom always reminds me to wipe down my window screens and sills since clean windows will provide optimal, clear vision. Blurry or dirty windows almost block out the good energy and flow from outside.

It’s recommended to use water to clean these areas since water is known to absorb negative energy and reset the space.

Always Declutter

You will never catch my space being filled with clutter for long periods of time because I’ve been taught to streamline my space as soon as possible by my mom. Clutter piles often represent stagnant energy and can disturb the flow of any room.

Having a space filled with clutter will also make no room for new things in your life, so the faster you get rid of things that no longer serve, the more of a chance there will be for better things to come into your life.

Avoid Busy Patterns in the Bedroom

I’ve always renovated my bedroom since I was a little girl, but my mom would help me find a balance when it came to choosing a color palette or theme.

It’s completely okay to bring your favorite pattern through an accent wall or bedding, but to overwhelm your bedroom with multiple busy patterns can cause a disruption.

Your bedroom’s supposed to feel calm and relaxing for a good sleep, but busy patterns can take away the serenity, making it harder to unwind.

Frequently Open Windows

There can often be stale energy and air in a room if you don’t clear it by frequently opening your windows. It’s become a daily routine of mine to always open my windows and let fresh air in.

On top of that, I try to choose airy window treatments so natural light can easily filter into my room, which helps brighten the mood.
